Pinot Noir is a personal favourite which I could enjoy every single day. Having said that, the Creation Reserve Pinot Noir is a dream to work with. The wine has an enormous amount of character and the flavour you get on the nose and on the palate adds to the wonderful quality.
I like serving Pinot Noir with a poultry dish, especially a well-cooked duck breast because it is not overpowering. The meat is rich enough, but delicate enough to complement the delicacy of the wine. Here the wine is paired with something completely different: French Toast Brioche with Sliced Duck Breast and Pomegranate Sauce. The dish has subtle notes of caramel offsetting the fruit in the wine; the pomegranate sauce balances the lovely freshness of the wine while micro rocket echoes this crispness.

Creation Excels at SAWi Awards
On Saturday 18 June Creation co-owners Jean-Claude and Carolyn Martin attended the 2016 SAWi Wine Excellence Awards at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve.
The South African Wine Index (SAWi) was established in 2009 with the aim of independently identifying South Africa’s best wines. An ongoing indexing process makes it easy to distinguish the top performing producers and which of their wines are consistently accepted as exceptional. Two aspirational benchmarks are set against which to measure wine quality: Grand Gold status (awarded to wines scoring more than 93 Index points) and Platinum status (for wines scoring above 95). Together, these sets comprise the ‘South African Grand Wines Collection’.
We are proud to report that Creation Wines once again performed very well. Three of our wines were awarded Platinum status – the Creation Reserve Pinot Noir, Creation Syrah, Grenache and Creation Pinot Noir – while four were awarded Grand Gold – the Creation Merlot, Creation Viognier, Creation Chardonnay and Creation Syrah.
(Wine vintages are not included as the SAWi judging system is based on the combined results a wine has achieved over multi vintages.)

Creation is situated near the top of the Hemel and Aarde with lovely views. The restaurant is in a modern but tastefully decorated winery. Being a substantial wine estate there is obviously a wide selection of wines – all served in Riedel glasses! The servers are well trained and give a good explanation of each wine or item of food. My wife had the 3 course lunch with wine pairing and I had the 8 course Tapas menu with wine pairing. Each food serving is small, as it should be, and wonderfully presented – definitely fine dining even for tapas! I can recommend both of those menu choices. The “Art of Chardonnay” is a wonderful expression of that varietal and amongst the best you will taste in the country and all 3 of the Pinot Noir wines world class. Give yourself lots of time to enjoy the experience as it is well worth it!
