In this popular series we feature selected sommeliers from top restaurants around the world. This week we welcome Marko Jovancic from the well-known Ritrovo and Priva Lounge in Pretoria.
The first time I was introduced to the Art of Creation Chardonnay was at a blind tasting in Durban. I thought at first that it was a very prestigious French or American wine but to my pleasant surprise I found out it was local. When I started working at Saxon Hotel, it was one of the first wines I listed and now it features on our Ritrovo and Priva Lounge wine lists. Many of our patrons prefer special, exclusive wines and that the Art of Creation Chardonnay certainly is!

Creation Viognier. An All-Time Favourite
The versatility of Creation’s Viognier was recently proven again when Billie Lambrechts, better known as Billie & Butter – a cook, caterer, writer and lover of all things food – hosted a Steak Challenge where she paired a 4-course steak dinner with exceptional WHITE wines from the Hemel-en-Aarde. She chose the Creation Viognier to pair with her starter course for which she created “steak snails” and an edible garden. The pairing was very well received.

Here are a few comments recently made by our visitors:
We hadn’t booked & were very lucky to get a table for wine tasting. We ordered one cheese platter & one charcuterie platter to accompany the wines. We tasted many white & red wines & had excellent service from Stephanie. She is their wine rep in Cape Town so had excellent knowledge of the history of the farm & the wines. The restaurant is beautiful with a gorgeous big fireplace & balcony where one can sit & admire the mountains & vineyards. This was our first tasting of Creation wines & we loved the Rosé & Sauvignon Blanc. Our friends loved the reds. A lovely space to spend an afternoon if you’re a wine lover.

We visited Creation for my Birthday, it was truly a lovely experience, the lady who was doing the wine tasting was very friendly and knew everything about the wine, Creation farm and even the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. She answered all our questions and we all were very impressed. We enjoyed our time at Creation so much we decided to have lunch as well. Everything was perfect and I will recommend this to all my family and friends. Oh and if you have kids there is a small playroom with supervision and they have a tasting for the kids with milk and cookies that was just too cute and something very unique.

My husband and I have tasted and thoroughly enjoyed every wine at Creation and most of the food options. We have been many times and think Creation is one of the best wine tasting/eating experiences in the gorgeous Overberg Wine Region. This wine area is “off the beaten track” and an awesome location to explore – beautiful scenery, by the coast, close to Hermanus, the Hermanus Lagoon, beaches, etc … Creation sets an incredible all round standard for wine and food pairing. We can’t wait to return!
