No doubt about it: Chenin has become chic! Yes, that old stalwart that’s been around since the first vineyards were planted in South Africa, has at last achieved its rightful place as a noble cultivar and is today among the top of the pops. More and more dedicated winemakers are catering for an increasing number of wine lovers opting for a well-made Chenin. And now the ever-innovative Creation team has released the first Cool-Climate Chenin to be grown and made in the Hemel-en-Aarde.
The 2017 Creation Cool-Climate Chenin Blanc displays the most delicate shade of wild primrose with tinges of lime playing hide-and-seek in the glass. A bouquet of gentle ginger, tender tomato leaf, apple skin and honeycomb casts the first spell. On the palate the magic unfolds with crisp quince and fresh green apple flirting with the smoothness of coconut milk in the background. It is a wine that is as remarkable in its purity as it is in its joyous complexity.
The complexity of the wine makes it the perfect partner for a wide variety of dishes. In celebration of the launch, Creation’s Chef Francois Hugo created his truly scrumptious Pork Belly with Sautéed Spring Onion and Leek, King Oyster Snow, Charred Orange, Wonton Crisp, Citrus Beurre Blanc and Chervil. Creation: A Feast of Flavours, Tastes and Textures
“Slivers of smoked duck breast with gentle goats milk cheese, sliced beetroot and radish, raspberries, pomegranate, a Pinot Noir salt and an inspired touch was the pistachio crumb. The flavours of both sing in the mouth.” To read the complete blog on MENU, John and Lynne Ford’s Weekly Cape Wine, Food and Lifestyle E-Journal, click here.
