At Creation there is always something new and right now the team is preparing for their participation in the 2017 Absa Cape Epic, providing one of the official water and spectator points.

The event takes place on 21 March (Human Rights Day) and according to Creation co-owner and marketing director Carolyn Martin the Creation team looks forward to hosting not only the riders but also their supporters.

Our harvest is in full swing and adding to this excitement is the upcoming Cape Epic – an exhilarating time for all of us.  Our participation is a first for Creation and we’ve commissioned the gifted land artist Strijdom van der Merwe to create an installation which will feature as a landmark on the estate. His striking and innovative work of art is titled ‘Create your own Path’ and embodies not only the challenges we had to face when establishing Creation, but of course also the challenges faced by the Cape Epic riders.

The Creation Tasting Room will open at 7:30 am on the day and Cape Epic supporters will be welcomed with Creation’s Elation Méthode Cap Classique, filled croissants, coffee, tea and fresh apples from the neighbouring farms. There will also be an opportunity for tasting and buying Creation’s award-winning wines.

Cape Epic Culinary Delights

The place to be next week during the Cape Epic is the Creation Tasting Room. The Culinary Team created a scrumptious Cape Epic inspired menu ready to fuel you with energy. The starter is a quinoa with grilled artichoke and roasted sweet potato salad with nasturtium and fresh pomegranates served with the Creation Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. For main course look forward to a smoked salmon pasta with black olives, asparagus, basil, sun-dried tomatoes and pinenut served with Creation Chardonnay. It all ends on a high note with a lovely dessert from chef Eleanor: quince and saffron mousse with cranberry and pistachio granola bar crumble served with fresh figs, raspberries and basil served with the Creation Pinot Noir.

Harvest Delights

The Creation Culinary Team once again spoiled us with a harvest inspired dish: Pork Belly with Zatar-spiced Apple Wedges, Green Bean and Red Pepper Salsa and Sweet Potato Purée. Created by Chef Jaco the dish pairs perfectly with the Creation Syrah, Grenache. Click here for the recipe.

Pebbles News

The Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project was implemented in September 2016 under the capable management of Elizabeth Naudé and thanks to seed funding from the Cape Wine Auction Trust. Elizabeth reports:

“The Haygrove Company is busy installing tunnels that will soon be filled with wonderful organic vegetable seedlings.  The organic vegetables will supplement the current nutrition programme as all the learners attending the project are fed every day.  Not only will they be eating high quality, fresh food, but Haygrove will teach the After-Care children how to grow vegetables. This skill they can take home and start growing vegetables to help feed their family. The chickens that were donated two weeks ago are walking around happily on the farm and supplying around 15 eggs per day. These eggs are also used in the nutrition programme while surplus eggs are sold and the money goes back into the nutrition programme.”

Called in at this winery on recommendation of our B&B hosts in Hermanus. Fantastic views from the restaurant/tasting facility and our tasting was served by an extremely knowledgeable and charming young lady. Lovely wines in their collection although a bit pricey for the average South African earner I feel. Lovely varied meals offered off their daily write up menu board however time did not allow us to test these. Additional bonus to paraplegics such as myself is that the layout is totally wheelchair friendly.
