Creating Wines of Distinction

High Days of Harvest – 3

While our raison d’être will always remain the creation of distinctive wines and therefore the production of quality grapes, we at Creation are at present also blessed with a bounty of apples, pears, quinces, passion fruit, plums, figs and prickly pears. All ripe and plump and irresistible in their deliciousness!

When last have you eaten a prickly pear? Not those lily-livered ones sometimes available at supermarkets but a truly juicy, brimming-with-flavour fresh and sun-ripened prickly pear. You know – the ones you had to handle with care as a child lest you got ‘stung’ by the thorns?

Well, these are the high days of harvest in the Hemel-en-Aarde and our neighbours recently sent us a gift as generous as it is nostalgic. A few dozen fat and flavourful prickly pears arrived on our doorstep – thorns already removed – and we naturally took up the challenge of pairing them with one of our wines, the Creation Chardonnay. We dispatched some of the ripe (green) prickly pears with a bottle of Chardonnay to a friend who is based in the city and she reported back that the chilled fruit and wine made a wonderfully refreshing pairing.

Pebbles going from Strength to Strength

We are thrilled to report that the Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project will soon have a permaculture garden to help provide a sustainable source of nutrition for the children. What’s more … they have recently acquired a brood of free-range chickens and already collected the first eggs. Definitely an exciting time lying ahead!

The next challenge is raising the money (R115 000) for buying a bakkie to be used for removing waste that cannot be recycled hygienically. Please click here if you want to contribute to this worthy cause.

We have also started a Crowd Fund page where you can make your pledge to this worthy cause.

Jan-Hendrik’s Mosbelletjie Recipe

As part of the Harvest Fare theme, the Creation Culinary Team made a lovely traditional Mosbolletjie dish. A big thanks to Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen from the Michelin-starred restaurant, Jan, in Nice for the inspiration and culinary delight. This recipe is found in his book A Breath of French Air. Read more about it here and click here for the recipe.

Think Klink!

Yes, it’s Klink season again and at Creation we’re delighted to be a nominee in the category that we love best: Wine and Food Pairing. As proud recipients of three Klink awards for Best Food and Wine Pairing we look forward to competing in the same category – now named ‘Great Pairings’ – once more.

Creation is a pioneer in the field of Wine and Food Pairing, offering no less than eight pairing options. Among these are the famous Tapas Pairing, the intriguing Secret Pairing, the scrumptious Brunch Pairing and the popular Kids Surprise Pairing. The latest innovations are Wine and Herb as well as Wine and Flower Pairings while a brand-new Vegan repertoire is being developed. In short: when it comes to Wine and Food Pairing, there’s always something new and unique in the pipeline!

Wine Tourism South Africa’s Klink Awards plays a proactive role in promoting one of South Africa’s fastest growing sectors – the local wine tourism industry. Unlike other local wine awards, it is consumer-driven, interacting with wine lovers to solicit their feedback via votes and social media indicators regarding their favourite experiences.

So, let your own experience be the deciding factor …  Do you feel Creation deserves to be Klink’s ‘Great Pairings’ Champion? Then please go to winetourismsouthafrica.co.za/sliceofsa/, click on ‘Great Pairings’ and cast your vote – which is very important to us!

Bottles in Tasting Room: White and Red

USA Visitors at Creation

Last week a trade delegation from the USA visited Creation for a winetasting and dinner. The guests were treated to tasting the best of the Hemel-en-Aarde followed by a scrumptious dinner prepared by the Creation Culinary Team. Definitely a night to remember.

Creation in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal

Our brand ambassadors in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, Patson Mathonsi and Nkulu Mkhwanazi, have been very busy showcasing Creation’s wines. Patson represented Creation Wines at the first ever #JoziWineRoute by ‘Tuning the Vine’ who stages the well-known street soirées in Cape Town. The next event will take place on the 5th of April. Click here for more information. Patson and Nkulu were also attending sommeliers at a recent corporate function at the Sheraton Hotel where a range of our wines alongside some international wines were served. See highlights of this event below.

Welcome to Our Little Piece of Paradise

Situated some 18 km from the coastal resort of Hermanus, Creation is more than a wine farm; it is a glorious destination where a warm welcome awaits young and old. Click here to make a reservation. Here are some comments recently made by our visitors:

We had a great lunch here at 2 pm, having started our wine tram tour at 10.30 am from our guest house. We had originally thought to do the 8-course tapas pairing menu, but having sampled too much on the way up we settled for the platters of the day (chicken/lamb), along with a bottle or two of the Creation wines. Unfortunately they had run out of the rosé wine so we settled for the Chardonnay which was delightful. A great setting and the book, telling the history of how the winery started, was a great read whilst waiting for the food. Our chauffeur had to prise us out of the restaurant at 4.30 pm, so he could take us home!

This was my second visit to Creation Wines, this time with friends, the first visit two years ago with family. The farm was busier this time but the service was friendly and fast, the food delicious and the pairings excellent.
