Creating Wines of Distinction

Neal Martin Ratings Highlight Creation’s Topflight Wines

image_pdfimage_print

No less than eight Creation wines have scored 90 points and more in a tasting conducted by Neal Martin for eRobertParker.com (see www.erobertparker.com).

Neal Martin specialises in rating wines from Burgundy, South Africa and Portugal and according to Creation marketing director Carolyn Martin these top ratings confirm the great potential of the estate’s now mature vineyards.  Among the highest scoring wines are the 2016 Creation Art of Chardonnay (93) and the 2015 Creation Art of Pinot Noir (92). This is what Neal Martin has to say about the two wines:

The 2016 The Art of Chardonnay is a barrel selection made from the Reserve Chardonnay, a production of around 4,000 bottles. It has a very attractive bouquet with orange zest, citrus fruit and an attractive marine influence. The palate is very well balanced with orange zest and tangerine, a keen line of acidity and just the right amount of saltiness on the generous, but poised finish. There is something very assured about this Chardonnay.

The 2015 The Art of Pinot Noir is a barrel selection of the Reserve Pinot Noir. It has a gutsy, quite intense bouquet with crushed strawberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit that blossoms in the glass. The palate neatly embraces the 40% whole bunch fruit, very structured and you could say, Morey-like in style. Grippy and more assertive with darker fruit than its Hemel-en-Aarde peers, there is a pleasant piquancy on the finish.

The wines scoring 90 points and more are:
Creation Chardonnay  2016  (91)

Creation Boasts Brand-New Brunch Pairing Menu

In line with Creation Wines’ ethos of constant innovation the team has now introduced an exciting new Brunch Pairing Menu comprising five of their award-winning wines, each matched with a delectable dish.

For starters there’s the generously aromatic Creation Sauvignon Blanc which is perfectly paired with Honey Granola with Passionfruit Mousse, Cherry Pearls and Oreganum to enhance not only the fabulous fruit flavours but also the terrific textures of both the dish and the wine. Three equally well-designed and tempting pairings then await your palate (click here to make a booking and here for the complete menu) and then it’s time for the full-bodied yet elegant Creation Syrah, Grenache which is matched with a choice between ‘Sweet’ (Milk Chocolate Crémeux with Star Anise Cherries, Black Olive Shortbread, Pomegranate, Marjoram and Liquorice Foam) and ‘Cheese’ (Klein River Gruberg Gruyère, Black Cherry Preserve, Black Olive Shortbread, Marjoram and Liquorice Foam). The fact that this well-endowed Rhône-style blend pairs equally well with both sweet and savoury proves the delightful complexity as well as the amazing versatility of Creation’s wines.

Creation – First Class on British Airways

Good news for Pinot lovers flying British Airways during the month of May:  The Creation Pinot Noir 2016 has been selected to be served on BA First Class on their Tier 1 routes. Among others these include Cape Town, Johannesburg, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, LA and San Francisco.

This is what Andrew Sparrow, Director of Sales Travel Retail at Bibendum has to say about the wine: “Owners Jean-Claude and Carolyn Martin are the inspiration behind the perfectly named Creation winery in the Pinot Noir hotspot of South Africa – the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven on Earth) close to Hermanus on the Cape. Harvest took place in late February 2016 with the wine being made in a Burgundian manner with traditional skin fermentation before twelve months maturation in French oak barrels with 25% new oak. This is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir with floral and red fruit aromas leading into a palate of sour cherry and cranberry fruit with lovely balance and purity. It makes a fine match with meaty fish, poultry and game.”
