Creation. Always a Green Welcome

The South African wine industry represents one of the major attractions for visitors to the Cape and in recent years there has been a growing trend among tourists, both local and international, to consider environmental issues when selecting a destination.

In the Cape Winelands there are several accreditations indicating a winery’s commitment to its natural surroundings and the presence of checks and balances to ensure minimal impact and responsible practices. As a member of the Biodiversity in Wine Initiative (BWI) and accredited by the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) scheme, Creation’s commitment to the environment and respect for the land which is home to its vineyards is expressed on every bottle with its seal carrying the motto ‘Integrity and Sustainability’.

Our Estate is furthermore one of only nine farms in South Africa to have been awarded EnviroWines certification while we’re also proud of our association with the Landmark Foundation and the fact that we are officially predator friendly. These efforts to minimise our impact on the incredible biodiversity of our surrounds extends to the cellar itself which melds into the hill above the dam, the earth insulating one side of the building. Wine Word of the Week: Estate Wine

The term ‘Estate’ is often used to describe high quality wines made in smaller quantities – but what precisely defines an Estate wine? In South Africa, the exact definition is that the wine must have been made on the farm on which it was grown. Or put differently: To qualify for use in the production of Estate wine, each grape must be grown within the classified boundaries of the farm. Thus the term reflects the ability of the winery to track the provenance and quality of all steps in the production process.

A radiant Salome and colleagues at her baby shower.

This past week was an especially happy one for our extended Creation family. Salome will be off on maternity leave from next week and we wish her everything of the very best!
