Creation is delighted to announce that we have been selected by Great Wine Capitals (GWC) as the South African winner of the Best of Wine Tourism Award (2016) in the category ‘Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences’. This is the second time Creation has won this coveted award (the previous was in 2013) and it once again confirms that our trendsetting estate lives up to its evocative name.
GWC is a network of some of the world’s leading wine-producing areas and was created to share and promote international best practice in wine tourism, one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing sectors of the tourism industry.
The international Best of Wine Tourism Awards are designed to recognise businesses in each member region that have distinguished themselves in terms of the excellence of their facilities and delivering quality experiences to visitors in various categories. The judges are drawn from among the world’s leading tourism, food, hospitality, architectural, landscape gardening and cultural experts.
South Africa is represented on the GWC network by the Cape Town-Cape Winelands chapter. Other members are Mainz-Rheinhessen (Germany), Bilbao-Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Porto (Portugal), San Francisco-Napa Valley (United States), Mendoza (Argentina) and Valparaiso-Casablanca (Chile).
Commenting on the award, Creation marketing director Carolyn Martin said: “We are honoured to have won this award for a second time. Innovation and exceptional customer experiences are core to our values and we are proud to represent South Africa at such a high level”.
Creation Reserve Merlot 2013: An Award-Winning Merlot from the Hemel-en-Aarde
The Wine-of-the-Month Club has awarded the Creation Reserve Merlot 2013 the trophy for Best Merlot of the Year 2015, an outstanding achievement for Creation and the Hemel-en-Aarde which is traditionally associated with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production.

One of the exciting opportunities arising from Creation’s now fully mature, virus-free vineyards is the ability to select exceptionally high quality pockets of grapes that provide the ultimate expression of terroir and release them under our reserve labels. Following the success of the Platter 5 star Reserve Pinot Noir 2013, Creation cellarmaster Jean-Claude (JC) Martin identified 10 outstanding barrels of Merlot 2013 (just 3 000 bottles) which were aged for 18 months in 45% new French oak barriques and released under the reserve label.
Good news for Merlot fans is that the 2014 Reserve Merlot is now available. This wine is remarkably complex on the nose with a royal feast of berries and nuts complemented by whiffs of cigar box, cedar and clove. The lingering palate is velvety smooth and berry-rich with exciting layers ranging from dried goji berry to hints of graphite and warm wood spice. According to JC the wine will benefit from 5 – 7 years of bottle maturation, but it is also drinking beautifully now. To order this wine now for delivery within South Africa, go to our online shop.
