With the holiday season almost upon us, the release of Creation’s 2015 Fine Cape Vintage (Port) could not have come at a better time. This is the estate’s second release of a fortified wine; the previous vintage was released at the end of 2014, selling out in less than two months.

The 2015 vintage comprises only 1 000 x 375 ml bottles, each elegantly packed in its own black velvet bag. The perfect gift for putting under the wine connoisseur’s Christmas tree! To celebrate and complement cellarmaster Jean-Claude Martin’s limited release 2015 Fine Cape Vintage the Creation Culinary Team created their exceptional Pear Mousse with Walnut Dust, Date Sponge, Port Poached Pear, Dried Apple, Violets, Coffee Foam and Baby Toffee Apples.

Nancy Gilchrist at Creation

Nancy Gilchrist MW, an enthusiastic and popular independent wine educator based in southeast England has close links with South Africa where she teaches and runs wine tours on a seasonal basis. Nancy recently visited Creation and she enjoyed our Wine and Food Pairings tremendously: “Indeed at a recent visit to Creation  … I happily gave an entire afternoon over to the utterly fascinating and sensually indulgent pastime of matching wine with food.” Click here to read her blog which focuses on innovative wine tourism in South Africa and emphasizes Creation’s role.

Another Award for Innovation

Creation Wines has once again won the Great Wine Capitals (GWC) Best of Wine Tourism Award (for 2017) in the category ‘Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences’. It’s the third time in five years that this honour has befallen the wine estate and according to co-owner and marketing director Carolyn Martin the Creation team is delighted.

The GWC is a network of nine major global cities in both the northern and southern hemispheres which share a key economic and cultural asset: their internationally renowned wine regions. The annual Best of Wine Tourism Awards is an international competition designed to reward the wineries in member cities and wine regions that have distinguished themselves in terms of delivering quality experiences to the public.

Giving Back to the Community

Last week there was an article in The Village News about the Hemel-en-Aarde Community Project. We were lucky enough to get support from Ford Hermanus to fund a bus for transporting the children. Our aim is to raise R600 000 and now the sum of only R170 000 remains to be raised!  Should you want to make a donation towards changing these children’s lives, please contact Elizabeth from the Pebbles Project at: elizabeth@pebblesproject.co.za.

Another great cause supported by Creation is the Operation Smile charity dinner to be held on 24 November in celebration of the decade of change created on the continent. We look forward to report back on this fundraising gala dinner.

Pam and Eleanor in George

Last week Pamela Gordon of our sales team and chef Eleanor Niehaus travelled to George to host a wine and food pairing at Meade Café.  Click here to read more about the restaurant.

The Classic Chardonnay Celebration takes place at the Thatch House on Saturday, 19 November and will focus on the exceptional quality and distinctiveness of the Hemel-en-Aarde’s cool-climate Chardonnays. Beautiful view in the Hemel en Aarde valley. Great white wines. Enjoyed the wine tasting with some great recommendations.

It is their masterpiece: the 8 course tapas wine pairing experience. Whilst listening to the passionate story of Creation, we are treated with 8 tapas (well: little angels on the tongue) that go so extremely well with all the different Creation wines. What a passion, what miraculous combinations, what a treat! We finished it off with the wonderful brand new Creation port. In the car, driving back to Hermanus I realized that I forgot about the chocolate & wine pairing. I looked back at the boxes in the car, filled with Creation pinot noir, syrah, cabernet sauvignon merlot and rosé. I am happy and cheers to you all. We will be back!
