With the peak season gradually subsiding, the Creation Tasting Room Team has had some time to reflect … Yes, we relish sharing our little piece of paradise with our guests, and of course we love showing off our award-winning wines.
But what we probably enjoy most is the interaction with our clients: every encounter has its own rewards and it is often a casual comment or question that triggers a fresh Creation innovation. These thoughts have inspired the philosophy behind our new 2017 blog series. It focuses on frequently asked – and sometimes unusual – questions by our visitors and aims to convey the interactive spirit prevailing in our Tasting Room.
Yes, it’s Klink season again and at Creation we’re delighted to be a nominee in the category that we love best: Wine and Food Pairing. As proud recipients of three Klink awards for Best Food and Wine Pairing we look forward to competing in the same category – now named ‘Great Pairings’ – once more.
Creation is a pioneer in the field of Wine and Food Pairing, offering no less than eight pairing options. Among these are the famous Tapas Pairing, the intriguing Secret Pairing, the scrumptious Brunch Pairing and the popular Kids Surprise Pairing. The latest innovations are Wine and Herb as well as Wine and Flower Pairings while a brand-new Vegan repertoire is being developed. In short: when it comes to Wine and Food Pairing, there’s always something new and unique in the pipeline!
Wine Tourism South Africa’s Klink Awards plays a proactive role in promoting one of South Africa’s fastest growing sectors – the local wine tourism industry. Unlike other local wine awards, it is consumer-driven, interacting with wine lovers to solicit their feedback via votes and social media indicators regarding their favourite experiences.
So, let your own experience be the deciding factor … Do you feel Creation deserves to be Klink’s ‘Great Pairings’ Champion? Then please go to winetourismsouthafrica.co.za/sliceofsa/, click on ‘Great Pairings’ and cast your vote – which is very important to us!
During the past week we had some lovely surprise visits to the Creation Tasting Room. On Thursday morning the well-known South African chef Bertus Basson popped in for a tasting. On Saturday we welcomed Lars Alberts from Restaurant Noble in ’s-Hertogenbosch-Vught in the Netherlands. And lastly we had Norah Hudson visit us on Sunday to try the new and innovative vegan option on our menu. Norah is the owner of ELL269, the first ‘only vegan’ restaurant in Hermanus. Cool Collector of Creation Chardonnay
Chardonnay connoisseur Tienie Viljoen recently visited us and commented as follows:
“We had the years from 2013 to 2015 in our collection at home in Gauteng and when we did our regular wine tasting/pairing/late lunch in December bought the 2016.” However, the story doesn’t end here:
While we were having a late lunch at Creation between Christmas and New Year, we asked Jo-Anne (who was looking after us) if there might be a bottle of an older vintage available. If so, we would like to buy it. I had the intention brewing in the back of my mind for a while to take a picture of the Chardonnay collection. Jo-Anne discussed this with JC, and off he went, down to the cellar. After quite a while (I assume he had to look around a bit …) he came back with three bottles of 2012! That came back to Gauteng with the other wine and voila – the picture below.
We have a long time relationship with Pamela Gordon [a member of the Creation team] and although we visit Hermanus not nearly as much as we would have liked, always try to see her when we are down there, normally over the Easter weekend, during the Whale Festival and our longer annual holiday during December/January. Pamela has been part of our family for so long we regard her as our ‘other daughter’. The plan with one of the 2012 [Chardonnays] is to get our little private ‘supper club’ together and then taste one of the 2012s, comparing it with one of the newly acquired 2016s. We will share our experience with you. So watch this space!
Thank you Tienie, clients like you make all our efforts worthwhile!

My wife and I did the wine tour of Hemel en Aarde and hands down Creation is 100% the best. It could stand alone.

Creation is located in Himmel en Aarde. A beautiful valley and the view from Creation is amazing. There was a kiddies corner 3 m away from our table were our 2,5 year old could play which was great. We had 8 tapas and 8 wines. The wines were all good, most of the tapas were good. The Viognier is good, the Art of Creation Chardonnay is fantastic. I do recommend this place.

What an experience … the tapas: wine menu! This is what staycations are all about: out in the best vineyards in the world, sipping the best wines in the world, in the best wine region in the world. It does not get better…!
