In combining winemaking showmanship with culinary artistry, gorgeous flavours with irresistible textures, Creation on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge in the Walker Bay Wine Region enjoys an enviable reputation for their wine and food pairing. And when wine pairing guru Carolyn Martin puts on her traveling shoes, a wonderful tale of tastes can be told…
Carolyn’s most recent culinary adventure first took her to Denmark from where she enthusiastically reported on two successful dinners: at Restaurant Hummer (which means ‘lobster’ in Danish) in Nyhavn, Copenhagen and secondly at Restaurant Goma in Odense.
“At Hummer the highlight was a dish called Torsk med svampebisque, blomsterk og sherry which included grilled fish with seafood mushroom bisque using black trumpet mushrooms. Garnished with nasturtium leaves it paired exquisitely with the Creation Reserve Pinot Noir.
“Restaurant Goma was ablaze with fresh proteas … at the same time I was struck by the strong influence of Japanese culture on Danish cuisine. One of my favourite pairings was the tuna sashimi with a fresh ginger drizzle which matched the Creation Viognier perfectly. While in Odense I also did a trade tasting at Restaurant Marie Louise and was treated to some of their specialities. Good news is that Marie Louise has now listed three Creation wines.”
For the first time in more than a decade the Creation team will be taking time out. To take a well-deserved rest and also to reflect, recharge and create. This means the estate will be closed to visitors between 29 May and 9 June 2017. And that it will be reopening its doors on 10 June with among others an amazing new wine and food pairing concept – ‘The Story of Creation’. Watch this space!
Creation on the Move
Dieter and Daniela recently had the privilege to attend a luncheon in appreciation of Creation’s role to promote friendship between Japan and South Africa through wine diplomacy. The luncheon was hosted by H.E. Mr. , the ambassador of Japan to South Africa, and Mr. Yasu Naito who is the President of the Japan Club gave a short presentation on the wine market in Japan.
“After arriving – not a moment too soon – in this iridescent valley, I immediately understood why Capetonians and Internationals alike would go out of their way to visit this award-winning Walker Bay winery.” Click here to read the complete article ‘by’ Jacqueline Mills of Southern Vines.
Virus-Free Future for SA Vines

A Visit from some Dutch Friends
During Jean-Claude’s previous visit to Holland he gave a short presentation to the Wine and Food Management students at the Koning Willem I College in Den Bosch. The Creation team was delighted when these students recently visited the estate. This is what one of them, Simone Verreijt, had to say:
The experience of that day is hard to describe in words. We were able to eat a delicious dinner and tasting lovely wines. Creation Wines [is] in my eyes one of the most progressive wineries in South Africa. My passion is wine and Creation Wines showed me what people can achieve when being passionate about something. At Creation everything comes together at the right place and time from the moment we arrived until the last goodbye, it was just perfect
This year’s Hermanus FynArts takes place from 9 to 18 June and promises to be a feast of exhibitions, presentations, performances, workshops, films and of course food and wine. According to Creation co-owner and marketing director Carolyn Martin the Creation team looks forward to partaking in this annual event, offering not only an art exhibition but also a magnificent spread of food and wine.
“Fine winemaking is of course an art in itself and as dedicated supporters of the arts, we are proud to participate in this joyous festival again,” says Carolyn.
Hermanus FynArts is hosted in assorted venues in and around the coastal town of Hermanus – one of them being Creation Wines where the estate will be exhibiting a truly exciting installation of sculptures by the acclaimed artist Willie Botha. Click here to read more about Willie and his work.
A highlight of Creation’s participation will be a three-course dinner specially prepared by the Creation Culinary Team to harmonize with three of Creation’s award-winning wines. There will be music to match and this rare celebration of food, wine and music titled Food as Art will take place on Thursday 15 June 2017 at 18h30 at the Creation Wines Tasting Room. Tickets are available at R550 per person and bookings can be made by contacting Claudine at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Welcome to Our Little Piece of Paradise
Situated some 18 km from the coastal resort of Hermanus, Creation is more than a wine farm; it is a glorious destination where a warm welcome awaits young and old. Click here to make a reservation. Here are some comments recently made by our visitors:
Our time spent in Hermanus was beautiful, however we simply had to go and experience Creation wine estate before heading back to the city! It was a risk, as I had no reservation and know better! Lady Luck was on our side – and so was the wonderful staff at this beautiful venue! Our table was soon available and the magical journey of food and wine pairing commenced. Our waitress was on form, had great knowledge of the wine and described each meal to the finer detail! Only the freshest ingredients are used. We had a wonderful time and also enjoyed our coffee at the end of the day whilst sitting on a bench outside in the beautiful gardens and admiring all the bird life! This was truly an experience which I would like to repeat again soon. Creation has earned all their accolades, that’s for sure! A piece of paradise in South Africa. Well done to Jean-Claude, Carolyn Martin and their team. Go on and take the drive to Creation … remember to make your table reservation in advance.

Creation – First Class on British Airways
Good news for Pinot lovers flying British Airways during the month of May: The Creation Pinot Noir 2016 has been selected to be served on BA First Class on their Tier 1 routes. Among others these include Cape Town, Johannesburg, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, LA and San Francisco.
This is what Andrew Sparrow, Director of Sales Travel Retail at Bibendum has to say about the wine:
Owners Jean-Claude and Carolyn Martin are the inspiration behind the perfectly named Creation winery in the Pinot Noir hotspot of South Africa – the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven on Earth) close to Hermanus on the Cape. Harvest took place in late February 2016 with the wine being made in a Burgundian manner with traditional skin fermentation before twelve months maturation in French oak barrels with 25% new oak. This is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir with floral and red fruit aromas leading into a palate of sour cherry and cranberry fruit with lovely balance and purity. It makes a fine match with meaty fish, poultry and game.
