Creation Viognier. Vivaldi in a Glass
Joyful and vivacious with tempting aromas of apricot, white peach and coconut wafting from the glass. Mild and creamy on the palate yet blossoming forth with bright stone-fruit enhanced by a sprinkling of spice, fresh minerality and tongue-tingling crispness.
Yes, we’re speaking of the Creation Viognier, a wine reminiscent of a walk through the Creation fynbos garden in springtime. Or Vivaldi’s Spring Concerto!
Among the latest top scores allocated to the Creation Viognier are 90 points for the 2015 vintage by Tim Atkin, British Master of Wine and international wine judge, 90 points for the 2015 vintage by the leading wine critic Neal Martin, and 91 points for the 2016 vintage by Jamie Goode, renowned British author and wine columnist. The wine also won Grand Gold at the 2016 South African Wine Index (SAWi) Awards.
A Feast for Springtime
Sometimes referred to as ‘the Goddess of Spice’, Viognier serves as a fantastic foil to the fragrant, aromatic spices of traditional curried fish. The dish highlights the freshness and minerality of the cool-climate Creation Viognier and the combination is simply delicious! The wine also makes music with fruity desserts such as the sensational Blood Orange Olive Oil Cake, Naartjie and Saffron Compote, Turmeric Latte and Coconut Foam recently created by the Creation Culinary Team. The citrus beautifully offsets the stone fruit in the wine, the saffron and turmeric harmonise with the sprinkling of spice while the latte with coconut foam finds its match in the creamy character and hint of coconut in the wine. They’re also planning a wine club tasting in Norrköping, Sweden and a private dinner in Tønsberg, Norway. Phillip and Nkulu at Mercury Wine Week
Creation’s Phillip Marais and Nkulu Mkhwanazi recently attended Mercury Wine Week at the Greyville Convention Centre in Durban. “It was great to see so many of our clients again,” says Phillip.
They also did a successful tasting at the well-known Café 1999 where the Creation Chardonnay is now listed. The private tasting room of the popular The Chef’s Table was the venue for another successful tasting.
“Durban is renowned for its curries and the Creation Viognier and Creation Syrah, Grenache are ideal with these flavourful dishes. At the same time the Creation Sauvignon Blanc and Creation Pinot Noir are perfect for Durban’s two seasons: summer and summer,” remarks Phillip.
The Bigger the Better!
There are many indications that wine bottles actually started out big, and shrank over time to the standard 750 ml size that we know today. This makes sense considering that clay amphorae, the precursor to glass bottles, varied in size between 9 and 26 litre!
The advantages of larger format bottles today are in many cases the same reason that wine was stored in larger vessels in ancient times. The larger the bottle, the smaller the surface-area-to-volume ratio because less of the wine is exposed to the small amount of air within the bottle. This significantly increases the longevity of the wine.
There are many more reasons why larger bottles of wine are becoming increasingly popular. Apart from being sought-after collectors’ items they make brilliant gifts for family, friends and business associates. But the simplest reason is probably still the best: they make you feel good, and that’s what wine is all about!
Due to the increased demand for larger format bottles Creation has released 1.5-litre, 3-litre and 5-litre bottles of our popular Rhône-style (Syrah, Grenache) blend as well as 1.5-litre and 3-litre bottles of the sought-after Creation Reserve Pinot Noir. Simply click here to order.
Creation on a Plate
“Aptly named ‘The Story of Creation’, the menu celebrates the trendsetting spirit prevailing on the estate. It features seven different courses or chapters, artfully paired with eight award-winning Creation wines. Each wine enhances a specific dish and thus the Creation narrative unfolds with each delectable chapter.” To read the complete feature that appeared in the Safair InFlight magazine, click here.
