Winter has well and truly set in here high up on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. The lush green foliage of summer has faded to shades of yellow, ochre and burnt sienna and now the naked vines of deep winter have a certain austere beauty of their own. Apart from providing a pleasing winterscape, this period of dormancy is of course essential in the growing cycle of the vines.
The fynbos garden at Creation has over 50 indigenous species planted for an all-year display of colour and fusion, making it a garden for all seasons. At the moment the red hot pokers are in full bloom, shooting to the sky. They complement the flames dancing in the Tasting Room hearth, offering heartfelt greetings to our guests.
With the 2017 winter holidays upon us, the Creation team looks forward to welcoming young and old, not only with the spectacular scenery surrounding our estate, but also with an amazing new repertoire of offerings. No less than eight pairing options are on offer and these include a delectable new Brunch Pairing and the unique Story of Creation Pairing. To coincide with the winter holidays, the Creation team has also just launched a brand-new Young Adults Menu which is sure to delight our younger visitors.
Chef Francois spoiled us again this week, this time with a magnificent Deconstructed Beef Stroganoff which pairs perfectly with the Creation Syrah, Grenache. Click here for the recipe.
With the launch of Creation’s exciting new ‘Penguin’ wine range earlier this year, the estate has once again demonstrated its commitment to conserving its natural environment. “We’re proud to celebrate our maritime environment by supporting the African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary in its important efforts to rehabilitate, release and research South Africa’s endangered penguin,” said Creation marketing director, Carolyn Martin. A percentage of each bottle sold is donated to the African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary.
Good news for Rosé lovers is the fact that Creation has just released the 2017 African Penguin Reserve Rosé. Chic yet convivial, this blend of Grenache, Viognier and Syrah has the gentle allure of dried rosebud and straw, mingling with inviting whiffs of wild strawberry and lemon blossom. On the palate an intriguing interaction comes into play: mineral hints resembling Himalayan crystal salt contrasting with a lingering, honeyed aftertaste of beeswax. With in-between, zesty flavours of strawberry, raspberry and cherry. A Rosé with Resonance!

Willie Botha’s Art at Creation
Creation Wines has been dedicated to supporting the arts ever since its inception in 2002. The team recently participated in the 2017 Hermanus FynArts Festival with a truly exciting installation of sculptures by the gifted South African artist, Willie Botha. Among these is his magnificent 2.2-metre bronze titled ‘Ramona’ which according to Willie was inspired by the famous Bob Dylan song about a young lady with ‘magnetic movements’. “She is staring at the wit perdjies op die see,” says Willie about his creation.

However, Carolyn Martin of the boutique winery Creation in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley does this all the time. Situated just 18kms from the Western Cape coastal resort town of Hermanus, Creation has just clinched the KLINK Wine Tourism Award for Best Food and Wine Pairing on a South African Wine Farm for the fourth time.
