With Friday 18 August being National Pinot Noir Day, we take pleasure in focusing on this fascinating cultivar, tracing its history since the Roman era.
Did you know? Pinot Noir is one of the most ancient cultivars with the earliest mention recorded in 1375, but with evidence of its existence stretching back as far as the Roman era, circa 100 AD. Over time mutations have resulted in a large number of clones with distinctly varied attributes. This renders clonal selection a critical decision, as each clone has characteristics making it more or less suitable for the chosen terroir.
Ranging from the Creation (Estate) Pinot Noir to the Reserve Pinot Noir and The Art of Creation Pinot Noir, each wine brims with attitude, style and that indefinable secret ingredient that Pinot aficionados find so irresistible. Since the first Creation Pinot release in 2010, many prestigious accolades and favourable reviews have borne testimony to the quality of the wines.

Wine tasting can be hungry work and Creation unquestionably knows how to satisfy. The jewel of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley, you cannot miss out on the excellent food and wine pairing options offered by Carolyn and JC Martin – the duo behind this absolute must. We’ve enjoyed their summer pairing menu and can confirm with lip-smacking certainty that their winter menu is just as moreish. Served in chapters that help to explain the fascinating story of Creation’s inception and growth, each course melds the flavours of their exceptional wines with plates that delight the eyes and palate in equal measure.

Creation The Art of Chardonnay 2016 was recently selected as one of the winners in the 2017 Sommeliers Selection Wine Competition in the category ‘Elegant & Classy Whites’. This unique competition is judged solely by a panel of top South African sommeliers.
Freshness, expression and elegance were attributes that stood out amongst this year’s winners at the Sommeliers Selection. The competition, now in its third year, has become one the most relevant and exciting competitions on the yearly calendar with its unique angle and approach. Lengthy and passionate discussions took place between the experienced sommeliers on the panel pertaining to the wines’ age worthiness, suitability to food, and the overall value for money. At the end, all wines awarded and selected for the wine list was ratified by one final re-tasting by the chair and the two heads of panel. The resulting selection of awarded wines are truly some of the best in the country, and something we can all proudly stand behind. Bravo!
Joakim Blackadder, chairman of the judging panel.

My wife and I went to Creation for lunch. What a fantastic experience. We chose the 3 course tasting and wine pairing option. What an experience. The starter, main and dessert were all exceptional. The wines were great and the service was warm and friendly. Even the cappuccino to finish it off was good. A truly blissfull experience.

I was really impressed. We were a group of six people. We never felt rushed, The various pairing and wine tasting options are impressive. We spent at least three hours and the bill was very reasonable given the experience. I will visit again.
