Over the course of last week the Creation Culinary Team have been delighted to welcome Chef Thomas Rode Andersen and Sommelier Thilde Maarbjerg from Denmark in their midst. The couple was visiting Creation as part of the ‘Reaching for the Stars’ campaign, an initiative aimed at bringing exciting international flavours to our table.
The high-profile Thomas is a Michelin-starred chef and the author of various bestsellers on gastronomy. Thilde is chief sommelier at the wine company Løgismose Vin and regarded as one of Denmark’s leading food and wine experts. Click here to view a video of the successful wine and food pairing event recently presented by Thomas and Thilde in collaboration with the Creation team.
What follows is Thilde’s impressions of South Africa and more specifically, of Creation Wines.
South Africa is exotic and vibrant, a natural wonder in itself, a place for entrepreneurship and development and sadly misunderstood by many people outside the country.
Being there, visiting two dynamic people who showed us the coming true of their dreams and the love and respect for their land was enlightening beyond any expectation. It is one thing to recognise potential, another daring to bring it to life and coping with all the challenges that inevitably show up along the way.
Creation takes pleasure in bringing you a sparkling event, involving the collaboration between a top chef from Europe and the talented Creation Culinary Team. Saturday 17 February will see the gifted Marko Kalyend from the highly rated Estonian restaurant, Salt joining the Creation team to bring you an evening of first-class cuisine, superbly matched with Creation’s world-class wines. A big thank you to Salt owner Tiina Treumann who contributed her vast expertise to creating the menu. Tiina travels the world to learn about new trends in gastronomy and shares her knowledge with the Salt team and in this instance, also with the Creation team. For details of the upcoming event, see the invitation ‘Creation, with Salt’ below. Don’t miss out on this festive event: space is limited so book now!

Creation on the Move: Nkulu in Uganda
Creation Wines Brand Ambassador Nkululeko Mkhwanazi recently attended the 2018 SA Wine Festival in Kampala and reported:
We landed in Kampala late afternoon on the 2nd of February and our drive to the hotel took an hour – traffic has become part of life in Kampala! For the next two days the grand Serene Hotel Kampala was our home.
Saturday kicked off with a training of South African wine for Ugandan sommeliers and wine representatives. This informative course was presented by Chad Huskisson of Beverage Intelligence. I am glad I attended as I got to see the passion and interest of Ugandan brothers and sisters in wine first hand. They asked interesting and detailed questions about South African wines.
The SA Wine Festival Gala Dinner hosted by WOSA, SAA, Stanbic Uganda and Serene Kampala Hotel took place later in the evening. It was a glamourous black tie occasion graced by high profile businessmen, diplomats, politicians and wine importers. The Honourable Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament was also in attendance and she loved the Creation Chardonnay!
Dinner was a four-course affair, each dish paired with a South African wine. The sponsors were all given a few minutes to address the guests. WOSA Africa Manager Matome Mbatha highlighted the importance of adding value and growing together in all markets where South African wines are sold. He emphasised WOSA’s commitment to training and working closely with importers, wine stewards and sommeliers.
After the formalities guests enjoyed more South African wines and danced the night away. It was a beautiful Saturday evening in Kampala and the future of South African wines in Uganda is bright.

“It was our first visit to Creation but absolutely not our last one. We enjoyed the tapas selection with wine pairing. Everything was very good. The food was excellent and so were the wines. The service superb. The two guys at our table really knew how to seduce us when it came to the pairing of wines and food. Thank you very much!!” – Teis T (TripAdvisor)
“A gorgeous day on the side of the hill in this beautiful vineyard. We have visited quite a few of them now, and this one stands out. Wine tastes of course vary, and all the vineyards offer something special. Here, the pairing of wines with food and flavours is fascinating. We had some great wine paired with food that was so creatively prepared and wonderfully presented. Food can be ordered as a small taster or a main meal. All options are possible. Friends recommended this place to us, i can only recommend it further. The service was great, came to the table as soon as we arrived and explained everything and how it works in detail. The interior is modern but also verycosy at the same time. Very friendly inviting place. The events they do with star chefs would be worth keeping an eye on.” – Eire72 (TripAdvisor)
