Visit the Creation website and you’ll find the following quote from owners Jean-Claude and Carolyn Martin: “Here, high up on the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, every dawn brings an exciting new challenge and innovation is a way of life. This trendsetting spirit has shaped our vision and led to many a thrilling achievement as reflected in our impressive list of wine awards.”

Visit the beautiful estate itself and you’ll find that these are not just hollow words. As Carolyn puts it: “The very name ‘Creation’ is a promise of constant renewal”. This philosophy has led to the estate planting the first virus-free mother block post 1994 and cuttings are used as a source for new plantings all over the South African Winelands. It has also led to the launch of exciting firsts within their premium wine portfolio – among which the Hemel-en-Aarde’s first Cool-Climate Chenin Blanc.

“At Creation we constantly re-invent ourselves,” says Carolyn and this is especially well reflected in the pioneering role the team has played in the field of Wine and Food Pairing. Creation continues to set the taste trend, presently offering no less than seven thrilling pairing experiences. These include the 10 AM Brunch Pairing, the popular Small-Plate Pairing, the decadent Chocolate Pairing, the Charcuterie Pairing, the Non-Alcoholic Tea Pairing, the Surprise Pairing for Kids and the one-of-a-kind, ever-evolving Story of Creation Pairing. The latter changes every three months to bring guests a brand-new taste adventure and at present the menu is titled ‘Heritage Story’, offering six palate-pampering courses or chapters, artfully paired with eight award-winning wines.

According to Carolyn regular cooperation and the lively exchange of ideas with top international chefs and sommeliers ensure that the Creation Culinary Team stays abreast of the latest developments in the wonderful world of food. Listening to and learning from their guests is another source of inspiration as is the unique ‘Creation Stars’ training programme.

Small wonder therefore that Creation was among the nine top South African wineries recognised for creating a positively memorable tourist experience at the inaugural Wine & Food Tourism Awards held on 18 September. In naming Creation as one of the three honourees in the Innovation category Chairperson Jean-Pierre Rossouw said that innovation is in the very DNA of Creation. “As one judge put it they’re constantly pushing forward with fresh and exciting ideas. Another judge praised their innovation across the entire value chain from the product, to the experiences, to the route to consumer. They manage to take their ideas and realise them with professionalism and with consistency. In fact, this establishment was a contender in all three of our categories, and a top contender. So to a benchmark honouree: congratulations go to Creation Wines.”
