The exciting news is out: apart from their latest, much anticipated wine releases the Creation team also recently introduced their first olive oil. The 2019 Creation Extra Virgin Olive Oil was grown in two Hemel-en-Aarde groves planted in 2007 on the Mount Babylon and Vrede farms and covering 1.5 hectare in total. Selected for their suitability to the terroir, the cultivars include four Italian varieties – Coratina, Leccino, Frantoio and Favolosa – as well as a Sicilian cultivar, Nocellare del Belice.
While the maritime climate and fertile mountain soils contributed to the production of prime quality olives, gentle, natural extraction methods with minimal intervention ensured a well-balanced, intensely fruity oil. The secret lies in the fact that from the initial harvest and throughout the carefully monitored extraction process nothing was added to the oil nor was it modified in any way. The 2019 harvest yielded a precious 1 000 L of extra virgin olive oil described as follows: The harmoniously balanced bouquet combines the freshest of salty sea breezes with newly-cut grass, crushed tomato leaf and notes of green apple and walnut. Buttery smooth on the palate with a piquant peppery aftertaste.
Given their philosophy of ‘what grows together, goes together’ the launch of Creation’s own branded olive oil is probably no surprise. The Culinary Team takes pride in sourcing at least 80% of their ingredients from neighbours in the Overberg region and according to Creation pairing guru Carolyn Martin the launch of their extra virgin olive oil is yet another way of offering guests an authentic experience and saying ‘local is delectable’!
