Bright New Year’s resolutions, anyone? Well, the ever-inventive Creation Culinary Team is ready and rearing to embrace 2019 with verve and panache. “We’re aiming to tease your taste buds out of their comfort zone with extraordinary taste combinations and out-of-this-world flavour profiling,” says pairing guru Carolyn Martin – and she means it!




According to Carolyn the perfect platform for these culinary adventures is the Creation Small-Plate Pairing Menu, comprising six sensational dishes, each enhanced with an award-winning Creation wine. For their latest repertoire the team of no less than five inspired chefs has pulled out all the stops to bring you a celebration of aromas, flavours, textures and colours. The magic of the wines richly contributes to this exciting variety show!




In keeping with the 2019 Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir Celebration, two Creation Pinots are showcased on the irresistible January menu. The Creation Art of Pinot Noir is richly complemented by the Duck Liver Mousse, Pulled Duck Leg, Pickled Beetroot, Raspberry, Thyme Jus and Sorrel (click here for the recipe) while the Creation Reserve Pinot Noir is a winner with the Roasted Dried Aged Beef Rump with Parsnip, Carrot Purée, Prune Purée and Red Wine Jus (click here for the recipe).

Another new ‘wow’ on the menu is the Creation Stars Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest which is a perfect pairing for the White Chocolate Tart, Litchi Cream, Dried Rose and Litchi, Meringue and Raspberries (click here for the recipe). Proudly made by the Creation sales team, this rare wine (a mere 500 bottles are left) offers beguiling aromas of gooseberry shrub and dessert peach enhanced by honeyed walnut, rich ripe pear and a haunting sprinkling of anise that lingers.

“Widening our (and your) culinary horizons is top of our New Year’s resolutions,” says Carolyn. If a visit to Creation is not on your itinerary for the foreseeable future, why not order the three wines, follow the matching recipes and embark on your own sensorial voyage of discovery?

In the meantime, two of Creation’s latest vintages are waiting in the wings … to be discovered, savoured and paired.  Lovers of Chenin Blanc take note: the 2018 Cool-Climate Chenin is as remarkable in its purity as it is in its joyous complexity. A bouquet of gentle ginger, tender tomato leaf, apple skin and sweet melon casts the first spell. On the palate the magic unfolds with crispy quince and fresh green apple flirting with notes of tangy citrus. In the mood for Rosé?  Well, Valentine’s Day is around the corner and the Creation Roussanne, Viognier with its abundance of fresh fruit and floral aromas will certainly live up to your highest expectations. “The multi-facetted palate zings with flavour: ripe peach and apricot enhanced by sprightly acidity mingle with the creamy character of coconut milk and the nuttiness of almond.  All in all a ‘bold and beautiful’ wine with endless pairing possibilities,” says an enthusiastic Carolyn.
