Creating Wines of Distinction

‘Wonderful Times at Creation Wines’

This week’s guest blogger is Lukas Winter who has among others, the following to say about himself:

I’m just an ordinary boy, no, ‘ordinary’ is too bland, it’s not the way I would narrate my characteristics, I would describe myself with adjectives like witty, rational, practical and logical, but in my stories, I’m normally completely illogical.

And this is what Lukas has to say about his recent visit to Creation:

Being at Creation Wines was, in all honesty, a life-changing experience. I learned so many tips that I can use to pursue my dream job of being a chef and owning my own restaurant.

Let’s start from the beginning. If you don’t know where Creation Wines is, it’s in the beautiful Hemel en Aarde Valley. Creation are known for their award-winning wine (especially Pino[t] Noir), in fact, if you’d like to see their award certificates, they are displayed in the restaurant. They have a stunning wine farm.

“From dairy husbandry and cheese-making to winemaking: there is always great excitement when celebrating achievements in our family. We are especially proud of my father, Walter Finlayson, who inspired our family’s passion for winemaking and has no less than three family members involved in this profession, with a grandson studying to be the next generation. Walter’s farming career started with dairy husbandry and his dedication is as strong as ever. Here he is seen with his 34thGrand Champion cow, Raigmore Doreen. He drove nine hours to Bloemfontein to show his cows and also received the Senior and Junior Champion of the Show. Indeed a champion himself – be it wine, cheese or cows – and we look forward to celebrating Walter’s 80th at Creation in a few months,” says a proud Carolyn Martin about her dad.

Art of Creation – ‘Reading the Testament of SA Chardonnay’

“There’s also no better place to explore fine Chardonnay than the Hemel en Aarde valley where Creation and Bouchard Finlayson is on top of the game.  . . . it’s the sought-after Art of Creation Chardonnay with its small-scale production that really stands on its own pulpit reading the testament of South African Chardonnay. From butterscotch to almonds on the nose and little nods of vanilla on the palate, it’s a rich and worthwhile experience at R905. However, with limited quantities available it’s a purchase you have to plan in advance.” –  Adriaan Roets, Lock, Stock and Wine BarrelThe Citizen.
