“Nelson Mandela has been making an imprint on the world for 67 years, beginning in 1942 when he first started to campaign for the human rights of every South African. His life has been an inspiration to the world.” – Nelson Mandela Foundation
Saturday 18 July is Mandela Day when all of us are called upon to dedicate 67 minutes of our time – one for every year of Mandela’s service – to make a contribution towards global humanitarianism. In anticipation of this special day, Carolyn Martin recently visited the Franklin Ohana Sustainability Garden project in Hawston.
Here I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Melun Jeptha, a brilliant young woman with all the qualifications and energy to drive this worthy project. Melun has a clear vision, hopes and dreams for her community; with the garden and environmental project something for the community to wake up to every morning. In my discussions with her, a distinct sense of collaboration became evident.
The Franklin Ohana Sustainability Garden is envisioned to be an all-inclusive, self-sustaining garden. The project is aimed at offering every household in the community a chance to grow their own food, to be shared and swapped out with each other. What can be more rewarding for the soul and body, especially during these times of COVID- 19? Now, more than ever before we need to know that empathy and random acts of kindness can go a long way to restoring our faith in humanity.
Click here to view an interview with Melun. You can participate in 67 Minutes of Madiba Magic and help transform a dream into food for life and food for thought by simply donating R67, 67 seedlings or 67 minutes of your own time. Click here to be in touch, or contact Carolyn on firstname.lastname@example.org or +27 72 673 1880.
Creation in the news
As a small token of appreciation to our loyal customers, we have decided to extend our gift of one free bottle for every 6-case ordered. We also offer free delivery of orders over R1 500. Your best value is from our cellar door. Another big thank you for your patience to those who had to wait for their post-lockdown orders to be delivered. When e-commerce peeked, even the best logistics companies’ service came under pressure. They have now caught up and we trust that we can rely on a more seamless door-to-door service in future.
For those wishing to visit Creation, we invite you to spend some time viewing our Metamorphosis exhibition. This is a collaboration between Creation and Janko de Beer which we know will appeal to all art lovers. Sharing Creation’s spirit of innovation, Janko is inspired by objects found in nature, which he reinterprets and transforms into his sculptures. The sculptures are cast in resin and bronze, with unexpectedly rich and unusual patinas. They are available for sale in the Creation garden.
Situated some 18 km from the coastal resort of Hermanus, Creation is more than a wine farm; it is a glorious destination where a warm welcome awaits young and old. Click here to make a reservation.
Greetings from Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge.
