Creation Wine Estate in South Africa’s Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Region in the Western Cape, has been awarded top-ranking vineyard in South Africa in this year’s World’s 50 Best Vineyards, and placed number 38 in the world ranking.
‘We are thrilled with this world ranking,’ says Carolyn Martin, co-owner of Creation. ‘This is recognition that South African vineyards hold their place among the best in the world of fine wine. When we look at the world’s top vineyards across the wine regions of North and South America, Europe and Australasia, we are honoured to be among the top 50 for the third time.’
The World’s 50 Best Vineyards showcases the very best of wine tourism and aims to elevate the visitor experience in the vineyards and surrounding areas. The Voting Academy comprises over 600 leading wine experts, sommeliers and travel journalists who submit their nominations based on the factors that make the best destination trip. These include the quality of the overall experience, ambience, cuisine, activities, views, staff and value for money. The results are then collated and converted into a list of the world’s top 50 vineyards.
This year the awards ceremony, hosted by Mendoza, Argentina took place on Wednesday, 26 October at Zuccardi Valle De Uco Mendoza.
‘Tourism is of vital importance to the future of fine wine, globally and especially in South Africa,’ says Martin. ‘Every visitor to the Western Cape, widely recognised as one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, creates eleven jobs each day. These visitors not only have a good time but also do good!
