The 2023 edition of the authoritative Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide has just been published and Creation is proud to have three wines in the prestigious 5-star line-up. These are the Creation Art of Pinot Noir 2021 (Allocation daniela@creationwines.com), the Creation Glenn’s Chardonnay 2021, and the Creation Viognier, Roussanne 2021.
Commenting on these achievements, Creation co-owner and marketing director Carolyn Martin says: “We are honoured by these ratings coming from what must be South Africa’s most influential wine guide. This year only 196 wines received the coveted 5-star rating and Creation is proud to have three wines among them.”
Wines qualifying for this maximum ranking undergo a rigorous assessment of sighted and blind tasting by a team of experts. Only wines judged to be ‘superlative, a South African classic’ are allocated five stars, which is equal to 95 points or more on the 100-point rating scale.
Four Creation wines feature among Platter’s ‘Highly Recommended’ wines: the Creation Art of Chardonnay 2021, the Creation Reserve Chardonnay 2021, the Creation Reserve Syrah 2020, and the Creation Syrah, Grenache 2021 all of which scored 94 points.
Creation’s top performer in the 5-star line-up is the single-site Creation Art of Pinot Noir 2021 at 96 points. Carolyn describes the wine as “as elegant and beautifully scented with fine-grained tannins and good concentration”.
Asked to comment on Creation’s peak performance, co-owner and cellarmaster Jean-Claude (JC) Martin says: “Our vines are now 20 years old and as our vineyards mature so the quality of the grapes becomes better and better. Our philosophy is based on ‘working alongside, and expressing the beauty of nature’. When you are harvesting quality fruit, guide it gently through the winemaking process so as to preserve the sense of place.”
