At Creation Every Plate Tells a Story

This past week Chef Eleanor Niehaus and I had the pleasure of attending the launch of the 2023 JHP Gourmet Guide™ where Creation was honoured to be awarded for Excellent Cuisine in the ‘One Plate’ category.  Congratulations to our Culinary Team!  A total of 36 premium restaurants received their plate ratings at the ceremony. We are proud to be in the company of these highly rated South African establishments.

The JHP Gourmet Guide™ showcases the best fine-dining establishments all over South Africa and is well respected for its authenticity and credibility. It is widely regarded as the first restaurant rating system in the country that equates to global standards with international benchmarking.

At Creation, we regard our restaurant as an innovation hub where families and friends meet to celebrate each other, map future destinations and reflect on milestones achieved. World-class wines, creative cuisine and magnificent scenery all combine to indulge the senses and inspire the soul.

Our culinary team is renowned for deconstructing classic recipes, adding innovative touches to turn yesteryear’s favourites into modern cuisine.  ‘What grows together goes together’ is our motto. This means that only the finest and freshest locally grown produce reach our tables. Needless to say, the chain effect of using local produce has a huge impact on the local economy in a positive and sustainable way.

Our guests’ feedback plays an important role in the development of our menus and lately, more and more guests have indicated their preference for fresh, wholesome cuisine.  This has led to us introducing a series of innovative seasonal menus featuring dishes that are as delicious as they are nutritious.  A shining example is our current Healthy Heritage menu, with in the pipeline, a unique new experience titled ‘Breathe’. Second Chenin Blanc Congress

Another excitement this week has been the Chenin Blanc International Congress in Stellenbosch. I think it’s so important to have an opportunity to come together as an industry to exchange knowledge, thoughts and the latest research. It allows us to take our thought processes further, ask questions, engage with different cultures and find answers and get insights. And to then come up with new ideas and more knowledge that we can transfer to you and the rest of our team. We will never know everything and every day we learn something new. This has been a perfect opportunity to learn from each other and engage. Innovation is a way of life for us!

Although Creation is focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, we also produce two Chenin Blancs: the Cool-Climate Chenin Blanc and the Old-Vine Chenin Blanc to honour the history, development, and innovation in the South African wine industry of this heritage cultivar.

The voyage of Chenin in South Africa from distilling wine to fine wine over the last twenty years has been remarkable. The first part of the transformation happened in the cellar and now it is all about site and the discovery of site for consumers.

What we have learned in the congress can be applied to various aspects of our business and there are clearly benefits to our team and to you!
