Island Alchemy: A Creation Wines Journey to Mauritius
Last week, Creation Wines embarked on an extraordinary journey to Mauritius in collaboration with our importers, Grays Inc. True to our philosophy of always pairing food to our wines, Executive Chef Eleanor and I created two themed wine pairing dinners that celebrated sensorial dining, healthy eating, and locally sourced ingredients – all designed to complement our Creation wines at the stunning Beachcomber Paradis and Shangri-La Le Touessrok.
The Sensorial Experience
Guests listened to giant seashells, and the rhythmic echo of the sea created an immediate connection to the maritime forces that define our coastal vineyards – setting the stage before the first course arrived. Then we created experiences around aroma and texture.
Honouring Mauritian Heritage
Chef Eleanor crafted menus celebrating the island’s multicultural tapestry, where African, Indian, Chinese, and French culinary traditions have intertwined over centuries. Each course revealed unexpected flavour combinations from this layered heritage – all designed to showcase our Creation wines.
‘Working with Mauritian ingredients was like discovering a completely new palette,’ reflects Chef Eleanor. ‘The island challenged me to listen differently and reminded me why I cook: to create bridges between places and people through flavour.’
Sharing Wine Knowledge
I conducted Creation Wines masterclasses for the Mauritian Sommelier Association and presented the wine pairings during both dinners. The Grays team and venue staff provided brilliant support, transforming the evenings into meaningful educational journeys built around our wines.
Two Exceptional Venues
In the Blue Marlin at Beachcomber Paradis, and in Coco’s at Shangri-La Le Touessrok, guests dined with the Indian Ocean as their companion. Both properties have evocative spaces where our wines and culinary artistry could flourish together.

We’re delighted that the Art of Chardonnay 2024 will be among the wines featured at Caroline’s White Wine & Cap Classique Review 2025, hailed as one of the most prestigious tasting events on the South African wine calendar.
Hosted by Caroline Rillema of the legendary Caroline’s Fine Wine Cellar, this world-class showcase offers wine enthusiasts the rare opportunity to experience an unparalleled line-up of the Cape’s flagship white wines and Cap Classiques, all under one roof.
Only 70 accolade-achieving winemakers, the crème de la crème of South African wine producers, are invited to present just one wine – their best of the best – on the night.
This exclusive evening event will take place on Thursday 6 November from 17h00 to 21h00 in the Members’ Lounge at the DHL Stadium in Green Point, Cape Town.
The ticket price is R350 per person, and on entry you will be given a crystal tasting glass and a detailed list of what’s available for tasting. You will also be able to place orders to purchase wines from the list at a 15% discount relative to the usual retail pricing.
