Mandela Day 2024: Joining hands, connecting communities
Thank you for Celebrating Mandela Day with us!
Creation has donated five mattresses and ten blankets for the little ones at the Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project (see story below). Thank you to friends, colleagues and clients who also donated beautiful blankets and mattresses. See the children’s gratitude when we delivered!
We need more donations, and you still have time to donate if you wish to support Mandela Day and Pebbles. Please find the details below:

Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual global celebration that takes place on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday, to honour his life and legacy. The day is a call to action for individuals, communities and organisations to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles, and to make a positive impact in their own communities.
Close to our hearts at Creation Wines is the Pebbles Project, especially the Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project. During the stormy weather last Sunday, the temporary bridge leading to the Early Childhood Development Centre and Academy was washed away, preventing access. (The authorities have started building the new permanent bridge, but this will take time to complete.)
As a result, the Pebbles children are temporarily being accommodated at Enlighten Education Trust in Hermanus, and they are in urgent need of some resources. We spoke to Johan van Tonder, the new principal of Pebbles Academy, who provided this list, which we hope you might help us with as part of our Mandela Day Drive:
22 baby mattresses and blankets
Stationery
- Monami Crayons
- Colouring pencils
- Colouring/activity books for all ages
- Puzzles for all ages
- Board games
- Exam pads
- Printing paper
If possible, please deliver any of the above items – labelled Pebbles Mandela Day Drive! – to Hermanus Tourism, located on the corner of Mitchell Street and Lord Roberts, Old Station Building, Hermanus, 7200. Click here for a map.
If it is easier for you to make a donation to the Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Flood Relief Fund, please find a donation link here and we will make sure we assist Pebbles in their flood needs.
‘We would like to sincerely thank Carolyn Martin and her amazing team at Creation Wines for joining hands with Pebbles Project to ensure that our learners are able to continue their education without further disruptions caused by the floods,’ says fundraiser Madelein Snyman.
‘Our great gift in life is to connect the dots, and there is an art and science to this that creates good luck,’ responds Carolyn. ‘Let’s join hands to help Pebbles on Mandela Day!’
