A week ago things were looking rather grim in the Hemel-en-Aarde: our beautiful winescape, aptly named ‘Heaven and Earth’, had been battered by the worst winds and floods in recorded history. Yesterday, power was restored to our region and finally we have communication between the road authorities and the community again. At Creation we have water as we purify our own, but parts of Hermanus are still struggling while reservoirs are filling up. 

In the meantime, the farmers – who always make a plan – have worked together tirelessly to make sure that you have safe passage to and through our region. The diversions via Afdaksrivier (opposite Fisherhaven up the Karwyderskraal Road) to Creation on the R320, and from Caledon to Creation via the R320, are working well. Please see the routes below.

One of the most exciting ways to get to us, is by helicopter. Besides the damaged R320 on the Hermanus side and the Botriver Bridge on the N2, the bridge to our Pebbles School washed away, which greatly concerns us. We need to get 160 children back to school on Tuesday, 10th October. We are engaging with all stakeholders on this and wish to thank you again for your ongoing support to this project, which is changing so many people’s lives in our community.

While all of the above remain challenges, we are incredibly grateful to the community and our team who have rallied together, in many cases turning crisis into opportunity. Our clients’ support, both locally and worldwide, has also been amazing.
