Creation is honoured to announce the inclusion of two of their wines in the esteemed World’s Best Sommeliers’ Selection (WBSS): the 2021 Creation Glenn’s Chardonnay and the 2021 Creation Art of Pinot Noir.

Submission to the WBSS is by invitation only, which reflects the rigorous standards of the selection committee. For the 2024 selection, President Josep Roca and 30 prominent international sommeliers meticulously evaluated the submissions from leading winemakers to showcase the finest offerings from around the globe. Each wine was chosen for its unparalleled quality and compelling story.

At Creation we are proud to have our wines among this curated collection which celebrates the artistry and narrative behind exceptional wines,” says Creative Director Carolyn Martin.

The 2021 Creation Glenn’s Chardonnay is a testament to the Martin and Finlayson families’ four-generation winemaking legacy. The grapes were grown in a small pocket within a single vineyard planted on 550-million-year-old seams of quarts that literally sparkle in the vineyard.Regular cloud cover, filtering out sunlight, brings forth a hauntingly beautiful, restrained style of Chardonnay. The wine is described by the WBSS panel as slightly smoky with aromatics of grapefruit, lemon and sour cream. These are complemented on the palate by a riper fruit tone of white peach and sweet mandarine. Very elegant, balanced with delicate creaminess. A mere 600 bottles were released, making each bottle a collector’s piece.

Displaying a distinct sense of place, the cool-climate, site-specific 2021 Creation Art of Pinot Noir embodies the essence of Creation’s commitment to excellence and sustainability. According to Cellarmaster Jean-Claude Martin it is thanks to an amazing thermal vortex – a fanlike cooling effect off the Babylonstoren Mountain – that Creation’s Pinot Noir vines thrive on the slopes below, patiently ripening their fruit to flavourful, well-balanced perfection. The Creation Art of Pinot Noir is a barrel-selection wine and a mere 4 200 individually numbered bottles were released, making the 2021 vintage a highly sought-after choice on the connoisseur wine list. Among the WBSS panel’s comments are: Earthy, with sous-bois and wild berry aromas. Delicate and pure on the palate with fresh mushrooms, herbaceous, smoky notes and fine tannins.

Asked what it means to be recognised among the world’s best by the WBSS, Carolyn Martin said: “This prestigious accolade is evidence of our unwavering commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability in winemaking. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the selection committee and look forward to sharing our wines and their provenance with wine enthusiasts, worldwide.
