Energy is at the core of our existence. We are energy. People respond to positive energy which helps us improve health, relationships and quality of life. And now Creation Wines takes pleasure in presenting their brand-new anti-inflammatory summer menu which according to Creative Director Carolyn Martin is designed to energise you. “One of our key values is resonance; we believe when we work in harmony with nature we create good vibrations.

“We start with the simplest and yet for some, rarest ingredients on the planet: clean water to rehydrate your brain and clean air to breathe. We are fortunate to be situated in one of the most biodiverse wine regions on the planet, away from industrialisation. Guests often refer to the ‘champagne air’ of Hermanus,” Carolyn explains.

This natural energy can be experienced in Creation’s handcrafted fine wines. Heidi Hansen, MW and sommelier puts it succinctly: “Creation has a diverse range of wines that all have beautiful tension and energy to them that can only come from premium quality fruit. The purity, elegance and delicate complexity of the wines signal winemaking that respects this fruit and does the best to highlight it without being heavy handed.”

When it comes to Creation’s sensorial menus, they also source only the freshest and finest local ingredients to ensure ultimate flavour and quality. “All of this creates a 360-degree immersion in our terroir; in this way we proudly share the energy that is Creation,” says Carolyn.

What to expect from the new Experience Creation Energy Pairing Menu? According to Carolyn it celebrates the balance between wellness and wine. As with all the estate’s menus, it is designed for flexitarians. Although 80% of the menu is plant based, it also features local fish, lamb and beef from sustainable sources. An exquisitely flavourful, equally nutritious, entirely plant-based menu is also on offer. Since Carolyn believes that a meal is always more memorable when it is a multi-sensory experience, the menu is enhanced by sensory elements, drawn especially from nature and their terroir.

The ‘Welcome’ course sets the health and energy scene, starting with a natural rehydrate and petrichor. Tomato gazpacho, nasturtium and buchu pair perfectly with the summery Creation Rosé.

Chapter 1 features edamame, cos lettuce, cucumber and lime salad which pairs beautifully with the freshness and minerality of the Creation Sauvignon Blanc. This is followed by hummus, brimful of protein with layers of depth – just delicious with the Creation Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon blend.

Next the culinary team share the tempting example of their presentation at EAT OUT 2023 where they were awarded a star. Comprising oyster mushroom taco, gochujang, black sesame, red onion, black beans, smoked corn purée and coriander, it is purely plant based, slightly spicy and presented in a fan shape, demonstrating how spicy food can help you cool down in summer. “Our vivacious cool-climate Creation Viognier with its natural acidity and floral aromas is ideal to enhance the ‘super-cool’ theme,” says Carolyn. Creation fans who want to support the Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project, can purchase a fan and make a R150 donation.

Chapter 4 delights with a feast of regional fare. Succulent lamb from the Overberg; locally foraged dune spinach from the Overstrand. These local favourites are served with brussel sprouts, radish and chimichurri. For the plant-based option, oyster mushrooms replace the lamb. Creation Reserve Pinot Noir with its irresistible aromas, velvety texture and that signature umami taste provides a magnificent match.
