Chardonnay Shines at Creation

May 25, 2023 | 0 comments

When you are harvesting quality fruit, guide it gently through the winemaking process so as to preserve the sense of place and express the beauty of nature.
- Jean-Claude Martin

Creation’s fine wine alchemy is a rare combination of art, science, our people, and a sense of place.

International Chardonnay Day is today, 25 May, and at Creation we take pleasure in celebrating our unique Chardonnay provenance.

Reflecting on the quality of Creation Chardonnay provides the stepping stones to a deeper understanding of the elements that distinguish them. There are no less than four fine wines in the portfolio and each of the Creation Chardonnay, Creation Reserve Chardonnay, Creation Art of Chardonnay and Creation Glenn’s Chardonnay reflects the cool-climate terroir where the respective vineyards are planted. Indeed, in the Creation Chardonnay one recognises the architecture of the geology and this has never been more evident than in the Creation Art of Chardonnay planted on 550-million-year-old seams of quarts, literally sparkling in the vineyard.

Creation on the Move

Being back in what was my hometown for 10 years of my life is always a reminder of the excitement, hustle and bustle that London is. On arrival on Sunday we popped in briefly at 67 Pall Mall to check details for our Friday tasting. This was via a walk through Covent Garden and Hyde Park – and suddenly we’d walked 18 km without realising!

Monday was a busy day. Traversing Hyde Park, the lung of London, presented the opportunity to practise my presentation, aptly on sustainability. Thereafter Daniela and I talked sustainability with the expert Skye Kobos. Mid-afternoon we presented ‘Creation, Adapting to Change’ – a celebration of South African food, wine and horticulture  – to an audience of 60 members of the press in Mayfair.  This is of course part of Hand Picked Hotels’ series on the Future of Sustainable Luxury Hotels which coincides with the Chelsea Flower Show. Also on our agenda was a private client tasting at The Antelope in Mayfair. How super to have met up with old friends and making new ones!

Tuesday was another whirlwind day. Yet we had the opportunity of visiting the spectacular Chelsea Flower Show. Among the many thrills was discovering all sorts of amazing mustard species, the seedlings of which are just waiting to be propagated in the Creation kitchen garden. And why not? Creation Chardonnay and mustard are after all a winning combination.

We then hopped onto a train to host the first of five client and press dinners at various prestigious establishments in the Hand Picked Hotel group. New Hall in Warwickshire was our first destination and the event proved to be a great success. For more exciting news, watch this space …
